Het is zaterdag 5 januari, 2 dagen na de aankomst en onze jetlag is nog lang niet over. Tijd om uit te rusten is er niet... Matt viert vandaag zijn zeventigste verjaardag. Reden genoeg voor een party. Dat komt goed uit... ik ben ook jarig :-)
It's Saturday the 5th of January, 2 days after the arrival and our jetlag isn't over. No time to rest... today Matt celebrates his seventieth birthday. Reason enough for a party. Nice... it is my birthday too :-)
De party begint eigenlijk al de dag ervoor... Ingrid, de dochter van Matt met haar man David en hun 2 dochters Eleanor en Olivia zijn zojuist gearriveerd.

Matt en Olivia lezen een boekje, als een echte OPA. Matt heeft een T-shirt met OPA op de voorkant. Zoals een echte Nederlandse Ozzie noemen zijn kleinkinderen hem OPA.
Matt and Olivia are reading a book, like a real OPA. Matt has a T-shirt with OPA on the front. As a real dutch Ozzie, the grandkids call him OPA.
Olivia vindt de windgong erg fascinerend. Eleanor veegt het terras.

Heel bijzonder is dat de verjaardagen van Matt en Vera, en die van Annie en Henk, numeroligisch identiek zijn. Kijk maar...

Eleanor en Olivia hebben samen met de kinderen van Matts andere dochter Diana, bekers beschilderd. Diane, John, Jody en Tom kunnen helaas niet komen. Diane is net bevallen van een 2ling, Alyssa Rose en Naomi Grace en ligt nog in het ziekenhuis.
Eleanor and Olivia have painted cups, together with Matt's other grandkids from Diana. Diana, John and the kids Jody and Tom where unfortunately not able to come. Diana was still in hospital after delivering the twin, Alyssa Rose and Naomy Grace.

De meeste foto's zijn door Henk gemaakt, die vandaag de fotograaf is. Maar als ik getroffen wordt door een mooie compostie, of in dit geval het kleurenpalet, pak ik meteen de camera.

Dit zijn John&Wendy die ons uitnodigen voor een tocht door de haven van Sydney op hun zeilboot. Wat een geweldig vooruitzicht!

Dit zijn Jim&Sandra, met hun zoon Adam. Prachtige mensen die heel liefdevol hun zoon overal mee naar toe nemen. Toch minimaal 8 uur achter het stuur gezeten om op het feestje te zijn :-)

Matt is in Nederland geboren en is op zijn 7de naar Australië geëmigreerd. Hij kan, net als zijn broer Ferdinand, nog steeds een beetje Nederlands. Ook Ingrid, hier in gesprek met oom Ferdinand, kan Nederlands verstaan. Ferdinand houdt zijn Nederlands bij door af en toe een Nederlandse dame te bezoeken, die bij hem in de buurt woont... dan praten ze gezellig Nederlands.

Tot nog toe bestonden mijn massages alleen uit genezende massages door een fysiotherapeut... ook niet verkeerd :-) Hayley's massage belooft een rustgevende en verzorgende ervaring te worden!

Until now the only massages I've got, were remedial massages from a physiotherapist... also not bad :-) Hayleys massage promise to be a relaxing and nurturing experience!

De taart is ontzettend lekker.

en ook op bijna iedere party in Australië aanwezig... de barbecue. Traditioneel staan daar alleen mannen omheen... dat is in Nederland al niet veel anders :-)

Het huis is weer leeg... maar niet voor lang. Morgen (zondag) gaan we vrolijk verder met een afterparty, speciaal voor alle gasten die vanwege de verre reis, hun intrek in een hotel in de buurt hebben genomen.
The house is empty again... but not for long. Tomorrow (Sunday) we will happily continue with an afterparty, especially for all the guests who because of the long journey, moved into a hotel in the neighbourhood.
